Physical movement in the Upper School

Movement is essential for focus, well-being, and self-regulation. With a two-story rock wall, weight room, and professional dance studio right in the building, students have daily opportunities to recharge, stay active, and return to class energized and ready to learn.

Built-in time for daily movement

Our daily schedule includes flexible blocks that allow students to pause, move, and refocus. Students might participate in running club after lunch, or climb our 2-story rock wall during a mid-morning break.

With locker rooms, showers, and a campus culture that encourages balance, students learn to take care of their bodies as part of their daily routine.

On-campus spaces for movement

Linder’s Middle & Upper School building will be intentionally designed with movement in mind. The building will feature:

  • 2-story climbing wall with auto-belay safety features

  • Fully equipped weightlifting and strength zone

  • Dance studio with classes to explore ballet, jazz, hip hop, and more

  • Flexible-use gym supports fencing, yoga, and other sports

These spaces are easily accessible throughout the day, allowing students to recharge and reset between classes. Whether it’s structured training or spontaneous movement, our campus supports students in staying active in ways that work for them.

Community partnerships

Our commitment to movement extends beyond campus through partnerships with outstanding local providers, including Sport Rock who teaches students rock climbing, and Northern Virginia Fencing and Archery Association.

These experiences give students access to high-quality instruction and allow them to pursue physical activity that matches their individual interests.

Old Town is our playground

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Linder High School also offers students direct access to a vibrant, walkable community. Just steps from our doors, student clubs can take advantage of nearby biking trails, waterfront running, and other seasonal outdoor activities.
