Lower School Teacher

McKenzie Johnson

McKenzie Johnson has been a dedicated Lower School teacher at The Linder Academy since 2021. With a background in Human Services and Psychology from Old Dominion University and a certificate in Family Engagement from HarvardX, she brings a strong understanding of child development, individualized instruction, and the importance of meaningful partnerships between schools and families. McKenzie is currently pursuing her Master of Education in Literacy Leadership (K–12) at George Mason University, which has further strengthened her knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction, assessment, intervention, and educational leadership.

Trained in Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus and phonological awareness, McKenzie has a strong interest in structured literacy and supporting the diverse learning needs of her students. Her teaching incorporates a multimodal approach, including hands-on learning, visual supports, explicit instruction, and interactive discussion to help students build skills, confidence, and independence.

McKenzie is also a member of the Virginia State Literacy Association (VSLA) and is passionate about continuing to grow as an educator. She enjoys staying current with educational research, evidence-based practices, and new approaches to teaching and learning that can strengthen both her classroom instruction and her work with fellow educators. Above all, McKenzie is passionate about creating a classroom community where curiosity is encouraged, and every child feels seen, supported, and capable of success.

Outside the classroom, McKenzie enjoys reading, painting, and spending time with her pets.
